Why Take a Farm Field Trip?

Nothing can replace the rich sensory experience of visiting a farm. But how many of your students have ever actually set foot on a farm? How many children (and adults) pass farm fields, buildings, machinery, and livestock almost every day but have never dug into the soil, walked into a livestock barn, climbed into a tractor, or touched a farm animal? A farm field trip provides the opportunity to do all of these things. Make learning memorable by allowing your students a first-hand opportunity to explore where their food comes from.

Not sure where to start? This planning guide from the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project offers a wealth of well-organized and helpful information.
